My All-Time Favourite Movies

Screen Shot 2017-11-11 at 7.36.33 PM

Before I get started, let me make it clear that I’m no movie buff. But I have watched my fair share of movies.

I’m not going to give away the movies, in case you want to watch it. I’m really into action, suspense, and mystery movies. Also, you’ll notice a trend in these movies….because Christopher Nolan is just too good.

1. The Dark Knight (2008)

This movie became a classic the moment it was released. I don’t think anyone can deny that this movie is amazing. I’ve watched it countless times and yet I still find things that I didn’t notice before. You can watch this movie over and over again and not get bored of it. You’ve got to love Heath Ledger’s Joker in this. He’s pretty much what makes this movie good, other than Christopher Nolan’s directing. Ledger’s role is iconic.

2. Dunkirk (2017)

In 2016, I found out Chris Nolan was making a new movie (finally) and I was very excited. He hadn’t made a new movie in a few years then and I felt deprived. I discovered that the movie would on the the Miracle of Dunkirk. I’ve always been really interested war movies and war in general.

The film has minimal dialogue, but it works. The actors tell the story so well through their expressions alone. It’s a chilling recount of how Dunkirk really happened. It’s very different than how I learned it to be. This movie shows how it really was.

3. Captain Phillips (2013)

This movie was absolutely crazy. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. It’s a true story, based on the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of a U.S. cargo ship. Barkhad Abdi’s acting as a Somali pirate, was amazing. The story in general is very interesting, and the film is created in such a suspenseful way.  If you’re looking for a film that constantly has you biting your nails, this is for you!

4. Inception (2010)

I still don’t understand this movie. And that’s why I’ll never get sick of it. I watch it over and over and get a different understanding of it each time. It boggles your mind and makes you think. It’s about stealing secrets through dreams and that’s about all I get from it.

It’s quite long, about two and a half hours in length. But trust me, it’s worth every minute of your time. If you are looking for a movie that really makes you think, watch Inception!

My All-Time Favourite Shows

Screen Shot 2017-10-29 at 1.51.50 PM

I decided to write a post on this topic after seeing how much interest there was for it on Twitter. I ran a poll the other day and as you can see from the results below, this option was the winner. Be sure to follow my Twitter as I will be hosting more polls and would love to know which posts you’d like to see in the future.

So here it goes…. I watched all these shows on Netflix, some multiple times in fact. Let me know which shows you love, hate or haven’t watched yet! The following list is in no particular order.

the office

I mean, how can someone NOT love this show?! The characters are hilariously awkward,     particularly Michael, and the office dynamic is incredible. I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve watch every single season, and I think it’s becoming more of a problem. Nevertheless, this is one show that you must watch if you have yet to watch it. Dwight Schrute and Creed Bratton are my favourite characters, they’re too funny!

friends logo

This is the kind of show I watch when I’m feeling sad or stressed. It brightens up my day and makes me laugh so much. I’m sitting here watching it right now with my best friend, Rafia (instablog), while I write this post. I’ve got to say, Joey is my favourite character in this show; mainly due to his humour and how much he loves food. I know a lot of people have watched this show, and love it as well.

breaking bad

What. A. Show. The actors are incredible, the plot is so intriguing and you cannot stop watching this show once you start. I remember watching it a few years back and I think I binge-watched it. I couldn’t get enough of it. It was interesting seeing how the main character transformed throughout the show; but I won’t give anything away, you’ll have to watch it for yourself if you have yet to do so.

This American crime show is based off a book written in 1995, and after watching this show, I put the book on hold at the library right away. The first season just recently went up on Netflix! It is such a well produced, well acted show that most definitely exceeded my expectations. I remember watching the trailer for it and was so excited, as I am taking a criminological theory course at the moment, and I felt as though I could connect my coursework with the show. Needless to say, this show was absolutely fabulous and intense, and I cannot wait for the next season to be released.

prison break

I decided to watch Prison Break a while back when a friend recommended it to me. It’s a fabulous show about an intelligent man trying to break his brother out of prison. Obviously, there’s so much more to the show than just this. Let me know if you’ve watched this show, or if you’re planning on watching it sometime soon.

Hope you enjoyed this post, thanks for reading!

My Study Essentials

I thought it would be fitting to write a post about my study essentials while I’m actually studying for my midterm exams! My last one is tomorrow, and I’m spending today studying for it! The following list of my study essentials is in no particular order!

Laptop

20171024_160312

My laptop is totally essential for when I study. Although it can be quite a distraction, I use it for Spotify and to review lecture slides from my classes. Sometimes I have to just switch it off and put it to the side when I start to procrastinate.

Notes

20171024_145930

Most important material for studying are my notes! I take notes (as pictured) based off the lectures and the slides that my teacher uploads. I try to keep my notes as organized and straight-forward as possible because doing so makes it so much easier when it comes time to review and get ready for exams.

Pens

I make short pointers / big concept notes using my 0.38mm Muji pens. I try to keep as many coloured pens on hand for when I need to just add a little colour to my boring notes!

Highlighters

20171024_143654 (1)

Mildliner highlighters are heavenly! I highly recommend buying them, if you haven’t done so yet. I’ve had them for more than a year now, and I use them regularly, and not one of them has lost all its ink yet. They’re absolutely fabulous. I highlight key terms and their definitions in my notes, so I can remember to pay close attention to them (since these terms are almost always on my exams).

Sticky notes

20171024_143407 (1)

Sticky notes are imperative for when I forget to write something in my notes. I don’t like whiting-out my writing because it creates such a mess, and ruins the aesthetic of the notes, so I just take a sticky note, write down the point I missed from the lecture slides, and stick it right onto my notes. Doing so keeps things clean, colourful and easy on the eyes.

Hope you enjoyed reading this post! What are some things you just can’t live without when studying?

Week in Review (3)

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme by The Caffeinated Book Reviewer in which bloggers are able to share news and happenings in their lives from the past week on their blog.

Well, what a week it has been! I’m currently sitting here studying for my midterms, but clearly I’m distracted. Blogging is so therapeutic and exactly what I need. The feeling of being burnt out from uni is subsiding, so that’s always a good thing.

I had a bunch of essays due this past week and a whole load of studying to get done. I think it’s been quite successful, but I cannot wait to get into holiday mode (only a little over a month to go)!

The gloomy weather quite accurately matched how I felt this week. I love thunderstorms so much! They have such a calming effect on me.

thumbnail_20171021_160416

For me, studying while it’s raining outside is the best. I’m so productive, and relaxed at the same time, which makes for a great study session. I’ve got to have some icy water to keep me hydrated and focused as well! What’s your go-to beverage while studying?

I went for a quick outing today to end off the week and I got some mango milk bubble tea! Super delicious and refreshing! It was the first time I got milk bubble tea, I usually just get it without milk, but this one was so much more yummy. How do you like your bubble tea?

Here’s to a new week and much success! How was your week? What are you looking forward to next week? Thanks for stopping by. 💕

Cannot Wait Wednesday!!! (3)

Can’t Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by the lovely Wishful Endings! This is where bloggers discuss the books that they’re excited to read, as well as those that are not yet published. This meme is a great way to inform others of books that are yet to be released, and to hype the books up!

I have really been looking forward to the upcoming book by Rachel Caine. “Killman Creek” is the sequel to her amazing book “Stillhouse Lake”. I really enjoyed that book and was delightfully surprised when I found out that there would be a sequel. After all, the cliffhanger was crazy. I always love a good mystery thriller so I’m waiting on this one. Although I’ve got a little less than two months to go, I think I can wait it out with all the other things going on in my life to keep me busy. December always comes around quickly. It is expected to be published on December 12th, 2017.

Cannot Wait Wednesday!!! (2)

Can’t Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by the lovely Wishful Endings! This is where bloggers discuss the books that they’re excited to read, as well as those that are not yet published. This meme is a great way to inform others of books that are yet to be released, and to hype the books up!

I’m totally looking forward to the publication of The Fifth to Die by J. D. Barker in July 2018. Although there’s still quite a bit of time until its’ publication, I’m still ready to hype it up!

Screen Shot 2017-10-10 at 12.54.09 AM.png

The following is a quick summary from Goodreads.

In this thrilling sequel to The Fourth Monkey, Detective Porter and his team are off the 4MK case and on the hunt for a new serial killer. But Porter just can’t stay away from the Fourth Monkey case, and delves deeper into the killer’s childhood as an attempt to find the truth behind the mysterious murderer.

Even though the summary is short, it still intrigues me. If you read The Fourth Monkey by J. D. Barker, you’ll know exactly what I mean. If you have yet to read it, check out my review here. It was a book that left me speechless, and I felt as though there was something missing at the end. I know this novel will fulfill that void left by The Fourth Monkey, as I truly wanted to know more about the killer’s young years and to find out what turned him into the monster that he is. I know this one will be a serious page-turning thriller and will provide some insight into the questions that I was left with after reading the first book.

How excited are you for this book? What books are you looking forward to reading?

Sunday Post (2)

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme by The Caffeinated Book Reviewer in which bloggers are able to share news and happenings in their lives on their blog. This idea is fantastic and I look forward to participating in this in the future as well.

This past week has been so busy at university! I had a bunch of essays and assignments due, and I also had a midterm. Now I have a week off uni to prepare for my next set of midterms, how exciting! I have decided to take this week to study, get back into reading and work on my blog.

To start off the week, I went hiking with the family. It was so relaxing, rejuvenating and I took quite a bit of pictures. The ones you see below are the best ones that I took with my new phone.

Our hope was to see fall colours, but it’s not exactly time for that yet! I got two fall coloured pictures, as you can see, but other than that, I took pictures of the beach. The place was totally empty and it was so perfect because it was so peaceful and calming.

The hiking was quite tiring, but was worth it in the end. We also did some fishing, ate some of the delicious snacks that we took with us and went out to a restaurant for Thanksgiving dinner (I’m Canadian). Overall, great start to the week and now I must get into gear for some studying!

I’m just about to start reading Stillhouse Lake by Rachel Caine! The review of this book I read on Echoing Mind made me want to read it right away. Stay tuned for a review coming very soon.

Other than that, I’ll be back with another blog post very soon! See you then, and thank you for reading!

University (1)

With the first month of my second year at university coming to an end, I can’t help but feel so sad that I haven’t posted a blog post in quite a bit of time. To be honest, I haven’t really been doing anything fun, other than studying, going to meetings and doing readings for classes. I haven’t even had the chance to read a good book since summer ended. I think I’ll designate my winter break to be the month during which I read as many books and write as many reviews as I can, and I’m already looking forward to it!

For now, I will try to upload a blog post every now and then on any kind of topic that interests me. If you have some ideas of what you’d like to see me write about, please leave a comment below! I’d love some ideas.

How’s your school / work / university / college going? Super busy? Let me know! Thank you for reading.

Screen Shot 2017-09-01 at 12.19.14 AMBALI, INDONESIA

I remember seeing a picture of a beach in Bali on my Instagram discover feed and I honestly fell in love. Bali looks like such a beautiful place and I truly hope I get to visit this amazing island one day.

I have yet to visit anywhere ‘tropical’, which in my mind is some place that has white sand, turquoise blue waters and fabulous weather. I can just imagine myself sitting on the beach, sipping on some kind of tropical drink and taking in the beauty of Bali. What a dream! I love how Bali has a mix of  greenery, as well as pristine beaches! There are many high-end resorts in Bali as well, which will most definitely make the trip there even more memorable!

Have any of you been to Bali? If so, how did you like it? I cannot wait to go there one day!

Where would you like to visit?
