What I Learned in 2017

Screen Shot 2017-12-06 at 12.32.56 PM

2017 has been a pretty significant year for me. I have started to rethink what I want to do with my university degree, I’ve struggled a little closer to the end of the year, however I have also learned a ton this year. This short post will concisely go over what I’ve learned this past year, and a follow up post will be uploaded later which will outline my hopes and plans for 2018.

Importance of spending time with family and friends.  I’ve realized that family and friends should always come first and work / school should come after. I feel so at ease when I spend time with them and doing so just makes those stressful times all the more bearable. Time is truly valuable, and you won’t get that family time back in the future.

Have a designated time in the day to do something you enjoy. Some things that I enjoy doing is reading, watching movies / tv shows and spending time with family and friends. I’ve found that doing something I enjoy allows me to take a break and recharge for what’s ahead. It’s okay to take a break and gather yourself.

When it comes to university, I realized the importance of understanding concepts rather than little details. Although understanding concepts may be incredibly time-consuming, everything will come together in the end. Chasing good grades is not the way to go. Rather, chasing genuine knowledge and understanding what you’re learning is of utmost importance because the good grades will follow and you’ll have increased knowledge at the end of the day.

School is important but your health is far more important. When you feel yourself getting stressed, take a break because there’ll always be one more test or assignment that you can work on to improve your mark. One bad grade won’t ruin your life. It has taken me a while to realize this and I’m so glad that I finally did. To take care of my health, I relax with family and friends, read a good book, go to the gym for a good workout or just totally disconnect from social media and meditate. These methods have proven to be incredibly effective in me taking care of my health.

Hope you enjoyed reading this post and I also hope that your 2017 was full of life lessons and self-improvement. Stay tuned for my post on my plans for 2018. Here’s to 2018!

  1. You have learned so much! I agree with the “Importance of spending time with family and friends.” Everyone is so busy and they never ever make time! We all need to remember that family and friends are what is important! Make time for everyone and don’t take them for granted that they’ll always be there..

Great post lovely! Looking forward for reading more on your blog! xx

  2. I can totally relate to the “School is important but your health is far more important.” I’m a student too and it really gets difficult to balance everything. Btw, great post! Hope you have a nice day 🙂

  3. This is such a good post!💜 I completely agree with understanding concepts instead of the details because in the long run it saves time and is definitely more rewarding — speaking from experience lol.

We definitely gotta spend as much time as we can before I leave! Hope to see you in Australia some time this year. 😉

  4. “importance of understanding concepts rather than little details”

Absolutely. It’s the major difference between high school and college. Making an effort and applying this to life in general is great, too! Sometimes it’s difficult but the reward is always there.

    Much success in 2018!

  5. I cant stress how much more important health is than school! I absolutely hated sixth form and it was honestly making me depressed, i would get home and just break down wondering why nobody would help me, it was tough and i regret not finding someone to speak to, it killed me inside!

  6. I could not agree more about having a designated time in the day dedicated to something you really enjoy, while I do know the importance of this it has slipped a bit for me and I find my schedule in a bit of a mess, so this post was the kick that I needed to sort my timetable out! I am also agreed with you on prioritising health over the studies, it’s such an important thing to learn!

I especially agree with don’t stress over the details at uni. I hardly remember anything specific from my degree but have a general idea of concepts. Awesome post and thank you for sharing your thoughts 💖 xx

  10. I definitely agree with the importance of spending time with family and friends! When it gets stressful it can be easy to stay holed up in your room but family and friends can be such a stress reliever! Great post! It’s so important to look back and reflect xx

  11. Completely agree with the take a break from work when you get stress…I’ve been doing this recently and it actually helps so much and means I’m more productive when I go back to studying. You could also use spending more time with friends and family as a break or ‘stress relief’! Lovely post xx

  12. Totally agree our health comes first! School would stress me out so bad and i never thought about my health for the pure fact that school would always promote 100% attendance and there’d be consequences if you failed to meet all of that and i think its so stupid when we live in a world where so many people’s health, especially mental health, suffer for school statistics!

  13. These are some great points! Especially the one about stress! University can be a stressful environment, which can make it hard to learn. So its important to take a break, clear your mind and energize – all of which will help you learn and get that 9.0 GPA!
